Interesting Facts About Goldfish

Here are a few interesting facts about goldfish that you may have not already known:

Goldfish natively live in ponds , and other still or slow moving bodies of water in depths up to 20 m (65 ft). Their native climate is subtropical to tropical and they live in freshwater with a pH of 6.0?8.0,preferably a pH of 7.5, a water hardness of 5.0?19.0 dGH , and a temperature range of 40 to 90* F (4 to 41 ?C) although they will not survive long at the higher temperatures. Goldfish do not like bowls even though humans think the bowls are cute. Put him in a tank with a compatible companion goldfish.

Goldfish are the most versatile and beautiful species of fish that are kept as pets today; and for the fishkeeping hobbyist, they offer something for everyone. No matter what level of experience you may have in fishkeeping, the goldfish can meet your needs. Goldfish need room to swim. They can get stuck between or under decorations. Goldfish need green foods from time to time to help digest their foods better.

Goldfish are cold-blooded, so their rate of metabolism depends on water temperature. Do not feed below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Goldfish cannot be mixed with tropical fish, and indeed it is not even a good idea to mix them with other fish. Most catfish (ie plecos) that can be kept in coldwater get too big to keep in the tank, and they are a danger to the goldfish. Goldfish are diggers and will scatter the fine sand onto leaves, injuring thin and less hardy plants. Roots and well-rounded river rocks are a good addition to the aquarium.
