Caring For Your Salt Water Aquarium Fish

Salt water aquarium fish require a lot more maintenance and care than their freshwater counterparts require. Certainly when it comes to caring for salt water aquarium fish, you need to take a number of factors into consideration first.

In this article we offer some advice and information on things that one should be doing to ensure that you care for your salt water aquarium fish effectively. Along with thinking about whether the fish are compatible, you need to think about their size and whether they will have sufficient space in your tank to swim around comfortably.

Therefore it is a good idea to spend time learning about the many different species of saltwater fish one can place in such aquariums. This way you will be able to spend time determining just which of the many varieties, including Clownfish, Angelfish, Goby, Hawkfish, Tangs and Damsel fish, are going to work best in your saltwater aquarium.

Keep A Close Eye On Your Salt Water Aquarium Fish Tank

You should regularly be checking the water in the tank to ensure that there are no fungi, parasites, bacteria or diseases which could cause problems for your salt water aquarium fish. Remember, some of the parasites that get into your tank could have come from a fish which is infected with them and you did not realize it.

Ideally what you should do with any new fish, is place them in a separate tank where you can keep an eye on them for a number of days just to make sure. Then when you feel that they are ready, you can then move them into the main tank with your other salt water aquarium fish. Just a small plastic tank without any gravel or plants in it, will suffice to keep any new fish you have in whilst you make sure that they are fit and healthy.

Also when you do add any new salt water aquarium fish to the tank, make sure that you do so gradually. If you add too many at once, the chances of the ammonia levels rising dramatically will occur, and this may result in some or all of the fish already in the tank being killed off.

Feeding Your Salt Water Aquarium Fish

One of the biggest problems that you as a salt water aquarium fish owner will be facing, is judging how much feed you should be providing to them. Often one of the reasons why so many fish die prematurely in a tank, is because they are fed too much by the aquarist. Therefore it is important that you spend time reading up and asking those professionals who have already got tropical fish, just how much food you should be providing them with.

Also too much food can lead to problems with filtration, and this can further lead to a buildup of waste in the tank that can cause damage to your salt water aquarium fish. Such a buildup of waste in the tank could lead to your saltwater aquarium fish becoming prone to diseases and infections, and which in turn could lead to some or all of them dying.
