Information on Aquarium Fish - Oscars

Aquarium fish: Oscars are said to have one of the finest personalities of all freshwater fish. Some Oscar fish are said to recognize their owners. They are not the most compatible fish, as they can be compatible with other South American Cichlids but some rules of thumb must be followed. Be sure that the fish you are introducing is the same size as the current Oscar and that the maximum size is close to that of the Oscar.

Oscar Fish obviously requires a large tank due to their large size. They prefer clean and clear water with a deep sand bottom, and a few large rocks. They produce a lot of waste as it is and adding excess food can cause problems related to pollution, like ammonia buildup . Only feed the fish as much as it can eat in about two minutes. Oscar fish is not an expensive pet. It cost only 80 pesos or two dollars to buy a baby.

Feeding Oscars is not a problem since they will take every food you give, including flake frozen fish, prawns, pellets, earth worms, crickets, kitchen scrapes...and of course live food. Feeder goldfish are not a very nutritious food, and they are a good way to spread disease to your beloved Oscars. You only need to feed your Oscar once a day. Feeding if you have oscar pellets that is good only give him what he can eat in three mins. NEVER over feed they also eat lettuce, peas, carrots blood worms, earth worms, frozen shrimp (thawed out of course) green beans, broccli, etc.

I have Oscars and love them, and recommend them as long as you understand how to take care of them.
