Betta Fish Tank - Your Betta's Death Trap

Selecting a Betta fish tank can be the most crucial part of taking care of your Betta fish? Why, because their environment has everything to do with their health. Sure, we have all heard that Betta fish are hearty fish, but do you really know what gave them that reputation? They have an organ in their heads called a Labyrinth organ that allows them to breath direct from the air much like humans can. This has allowed the Bettas for centuries to live in dirty, polluted, muddy water in parts of Southeast Asia for extended periods of time.

This does not mean that you should treat your new Betta as if they were living in those same dirty puddles. On the contrary, you should take the effort to see that your Betta is well housed by purchasing a small Betta fish tank for them. This is crucial for their health. Bettas are much happier when they have room to swim and enjoy their freedom (as limited as it may be). They also enjoy having a tank populated with some colorful rocks, plants and small widgets to swim around, over and under.

Bettas are a very feisty fish and will show you their personality when they have an environment that brings it out of them. Imagine being enclosed in a dreary, un-enhanced room. How happy would you be? That is how a Betta in a dinky bowl from the pet store feels. So, if you are thinking of purchasing a Betta, you absolutely must take time to purchase a small Betta fish tank. It does not have to be a very big tank nor does it need a filter and all. It does need to be big enough to allow your Betta to swim unhindered. Tails and fins touching the bottom and sides regularly are not good.
