A Fish Aquarium is Like Your Child!

When you keep fish as pets you are really adopting several members at the same time in the family! Fish aquarium and its inmates become a part of your life just like dogs or cats. Naturally you would like to do many things to keep your pets healthy and contented during their life span and some of these points need to be cared for on a daily basis. Let us call them our daily chores!
Fish Aquarium Care
Once you have established a daily care regime there is little to be done in way of innovation and everything falls into the right place. However, a few major aspects need to be looked after from time to time so that your pets remain in the pink of health and happiness is written all over their movements inside that wonderful world of fish aquarium!
Periodic equipment care: If you have a simple set-up then the preventive or daily check is quite simple. In case it is an elaborate installation with a large fish tank and filtration unit, temperature control equipment, and special lighting or feeding systems then it is necessary that you keep a "to-do" list which helps you in remembering the daily, weekly or monthly tasks that need attention. The fish aquarium is your baby - and it needs the same care as your child, or any other pet! Daily check list for temperature control, feeding, lighting etc helps in keeping your fish healthy and hearty!
Meal time: Keep the feeding within limits of the general rule that it should be done only two to three times a day. Meal time need not extend for more than two or three minutes and over feeding completely avoided. In fact, if one thinks about these general guide lines, it reminds us of what we normally do with our children, dogs, cats and even ourselves - so take feeding in its stride - it is no different from what you would do yourself! A balanced diet of frozen, live, freeze dried or palletized fish food will do wonders to the inmates of your fish aquarium.
Light system: If you have adequate room lighting it is not necessary to be very fussy about fish aquarium lights, other than when you are feeding or observing your loving pets. Too much light with fluorescent lamps can enhance growth of algae and make the water warm that will result in the chiller operating more frequently, and disturb the fish during their rest periods. In case you have only plastic aquarium plants then it may be necessary to keep the lights on during certain pre-defined periods to allow the growth of photo chemicals. If live plants like ferns etc are used then lighting time can be minimized.
Look at your fish aquarium - it's beautiful!
Be proud of your handiwork in keeping a fish aquarium - and observe the fish for some time everyday! Even playing with the fish sometimes peps them up and they immediately converge near as your finger trances an imaginary path on the glass walls of the aquarium. Keep an eye on the social behavior of all types of fish in the aquarium and ensure that they are in line with what you know or heard of from other sources. Specially if you are breeding and keeping Betta fish!
