Bottom Feeding Aquarium Fish - Why You Need Them

Bottom feeding aquarium fish typically feed off the bottom of your aquarium tank. They are important because they eat the algae that collects there. They help keep your aquarium clean. Among the most popular, are Loaches.

Loaches love actively scouring the bottom of their homes for food, and they also love hiding places. Excellent members of the community aquarium, they are very popular with fishkeepers from novices to advanced. Loaches display the most unusual behavior as far as fish go. They sleep, whenever:) usually laying on a side or wedged into a decoration. Loaches mouthes have barbels and their mouthes are down-turned. Loches find their food at the bottom of the tank.

Clown loaches have been bred in aquariums, however it is very rare. Sexing clown loaches externally is hard, but possible by looking at the tail fin. Clown loaches are freshwater fish and like their water temperatures to stay in the ranges of 75-86 degrees. They require large tanks to accommodate their growth. Clown loaches are keen observers of other fish in the aquarium; they observe and react accordingly. If other fish are skittish and hide, clowns will observe this and do the same.

Yoyos are quite active and outgoing social fish. The fish gets its name from the markings on its sides, which in some specimens spells out the word yoyo. Yoyo loaches are rather boisterous and should not be kept with rather placid specimens. They are best kept with active barbs, rasboras, danios and other cyprinids.

Kuhli loaches are caught in nature or bred in large hatcheries. On the other hand, if they somehow breed in your tank, use Artemia Salina as food for the fry. Kuhlis seem to like this as they sometimes burrow in it, ingesting the sand then squirting it out through their side gills. They are presumably able to filter out the food particles from the sand.

Loaches make fantastic bottom feeding aquarium fish.
