Are These Saltwater Tropical Fish For You?

When starting up with a saltwater tropical fish aquarium, one is overwhelmed with hundreds of species to choose from. Although most of the tropical fish suited for living in a fish tank will get along well which each other, some species are more difficult to care for than others. Here's a list of tropical salt water fish that are very common among beginners:

1. Bermuda Blue Angelfish

The adult angelfish is blue-brown colored with green hues and bright yellow on the tip of its fins and tail. However, in their young years they are dark blue, their green coloring develops later on. An adult fish can grow up to 18 inches in length and can live up to 20 years. The angelfish eats sponges, but likes to eat parasites as well. This makes the blue angelfish a perfect cleaning station for your fish tank and other fish as well.

2. Emperor Angelfish

Adult emperor angelfish have blue and yellow stripes. While it takes about four years for the fish to acquire the adult coloring, the transition might not fully occur in a fish tank. The emperor angelfish can grow up to 16 inches in length.

3. Orangeback Angelfish

Blue coloring with yellow to orange colouration from the head across the back is typical for the orangeback, which grows up to only 3,2 inches. It prefers reef tanks to normal fish tanks.

4. Black Cap Gramma

The Gramma has a bright purple color with a black stripe from the mouth to the dorsal fin. This tiny fish grows up to only 2 inches and is mainly an accessory for other fish. If mixed up with omnivorous fish, the Gramma can easily end up as food.

5. Orbicular Batfish

Adult have a light blue color, the tail tip is colored yellow. Although the male can grow up to 20 inches in length, aquarium specimen tend to be shorter. Juvenile batfish like to live in small groups, but they will also get used to live alone without dying.

6. Salarias Fasciatus

Known as the Lawnmower Blenny, this fish is a good choice for every aquarium. Although not particularly beautiful, blennies are known to eat algae as their favourite meal and help to keep the fish tank clean. It also gets along with other fish.

7. Long-spine Porcupinefish

The porcupinefish is named after its spines which cover its entire body. The adult male can grow up to 20 inches and feeds on mollusks, sea urchins, hermit crabs and snails. This behavior can be useful to get rid of snails.
